Oil pulling with Coconut Oil

Oil pulling with Coconut Oil

Oil pulling or oil swishing is a traditional Indian folk remedy that involves swishing oil in the mouth.

The practitioner rinses the mouth with approximately one tablespoon of oil (sesame, sunflower, and coconut oils are the most recommended) for 15–20 minutes on an empty stomach, (although this has to be worked up to with practice) then spits it out and washes the teeth, gums, tongue (softly) and palate thoroughly.

According to an Ireland study, coconut oil is the only effective oil used in oil pulling that can stop growth of Streptococcus bacteria and is therefore recommended for oil pulling.

What to Expect when Oil pulling with Coconut Oil

My Dad has been doing this for a number of days now after talking to a customer in the shop about it.

This is what he has noticed, fresher breath, cleaner palette and the teeth have a feeling of being shiny and feeling more slippery if that makes sense.

When you start oil pulling it does take a little bit of getting used to, start with a short amount of time swishing the oil around the mouth, because at first it can feel like your going to gag on the oil…. am remember don’t swallow the oil, spit it out, because the idea if to get all that harmful bacteria out of the mouth, and now put it back into your system.
